
Sumio Shinohara , Psy.D
Sumio Shinohara, Psy.D is a clinical psychologist with over 20 years of experience as a therapist for individuals, couples, and families. Sumio graduated from William James College with a doctorate degree in clinical psychology. Sumio did his practicum and internship training at various clinical settings, including a community health center, outpatient clinics, schools, hospitals, and college counseling center. Sumio started his career as an emergency service clinician at Riverside Emergency Services in Norwood and served patients in crisis. Sumio also worked in the private sector as an industrial psychologist for two and a half years. Sumio also had training at Boston Graduate School for Psychoanalysis and was exposed to psychodynamic approaches.
Sumio’s clinical style is mainly the combination of cognitive behavioral therapy and psychodynamic therapy. Sumio values empathy and uses the therapeutic alliance to heal patients with psychological issues. Sumio is also interested in focusing on the root cause of the issues as well as coping with difficulties in their life.
