There are lots of different tools mental health care providers can use to accurately diagnose psychiatric conditions. These tests typically assess things like intelligence, cognition, behavior, mental abilities, and more. A full psychiatric assessment may also include blood work, a urine test, and possibly a brain scan to rule out any physical conditions that could affect mental health. Not every patient will need every test. This is something your provider will discuss with you.
